Be cautious of online pet shopping

HILLCREST SAPS communications officer Captain Linzi Smith has asked that the community please be more vigilant about purchasing pets over the internet, this after the SAPS noted a growing trend in scammers pretending to be selling pets online.

“There seems to be a growing trend of buying dogs/pets over the internet where money is deposited into accounts for security deposit or insurance only to later establish that the details given on the internet or website are fake or do not exist,” explained the captain.

She advised that the people who might want to purchase a pet over the internet do more research about the seller before depositing their money.

“Please do more research or investigate a bit more before depositing thousands of rands into someone’s account,” said Smith.
