Cricket club receives generous donation

PINETOWN Cricket recently received a boost ahead of the start of the new season with a generous grant of R50 100 from the National Lotteries Commission (NLC).

The funds have been allocated to upgrade the playing equipment for the club’s women’s team and junior cricket development.

Club chair Cynthia Daye said: “This grant from the NLC is going to be a tremendous help for us in the season ahead. Accessing the right size and quality equipment has always been a challenge for our women cricketers, which has hampered their performance in the past. This grant will further assist us in realising our junior cricket development goals in the community through the funding of high-quality equipment.”

She said despite the above grant and proposed redevelopment of Lahee Park, the club continues to experience funding problems and appeals to the Highway business community to get behind the club as it celebrates its 145th anniversary season.

Daye added: “Facility maintenance is a massive burden on the club resources. BP Richmond Road and Blue Security have been tremendously loyal to us over the past five years but we do require further assistance if we are to maintain the outstanding results of last season, which netted the club two trophies. Although we lose senior players to wealthier clubs each season, we have still managed to produce outstanding results, showcasing the pride the boys have in representing our club, the oldest in the province.”
