RELOCATING to a new town and school could be a scary experience for some however, for Chrissy Sibeko, this was the push she needed to soar to greater heights.
Fever’s Phindile Shozi had a chat with the local Wonder Woman to learn more about her life.
- Who is Chrissy Sibeko?
- I was born in Standerton, JHB in 1997 and relocated to Durban where I was educated at Port Natal Skool. I was the only black female in a school of 300+ and I had Afrikaans as first language. It was then when my passion for diversity and communication emerged. I am fluent in Afrikaans, isiZulu, English and Sesotho and my passion for communication trigged me to enrol in my current studies — Management in Public Relations at UNISA.
PS: What makes you a Wonder Woman?
CS: Being a recruiter — there’s nothing like the thrill of a candidate’s exciting “Yes” to an offer and a satisfied manager who just landed a top calibre candidate. Perhaps even more satisfying is successfully placing a gem and then seeing him/her add massive value to the company’s turnover. Knowing my efforts impact the economy keeps me going every day.
PS: What are some of the challenges that you’ve faced?
CS: In 2017, there was no way for me to know that September would be one of the most exciting and the most devastating months of my life.
I received my promotion but I also didn’t know how an employer would respond when I was dealing with anxiety and stress and I wasn’t able to bring my full efforts or energies into the office.
PS: Can you share with us how you overcame this obstacle?
CS: I always thought the priority would be ensuring the work was still getting done but instead recruiters and co-workers proactively reached out to comfort me, offering health tips galore and hugs for days. This is why I am still at Pro Talent — because no matter where I am in life, I still serve a purpose.
PS: Who is your inspiration?
CS: Cindy Norcott — for believing and seeing beyond my current capabilities (whatever that looks like at the time), she encourages me to work every day in order to create economic change, life enhancement and income stability for others.
PS: What is your message to other women?
CS: Don’t fear change and don’t lose your authenticity. We are in a world where change is constant and where social media taught us how quickly the novelty of something could be just a trend.
