ROUNDS three and four of the South African trials/foot-ups championships will be held at Killarney 4x4, in Shongweni Valley, on Saturday, August 4 and Sunday, August 5 at 10 am on both days.
Killarney is a magic venue for this event, with some large rocks and river sections which make for spectacular and gravity defying riding, all of which you will be able to view within easy walking distance.
Riders from all over South Africa will be taking part, with past and present South African Champions competing. Local Kloof rider Devon Mackenzie will have to be on top form to keep up with the country’s best.
There is no age restrictions in trials, with riders ranging from 7 to 70 years of age.
Trials is a sport of skill and a large chunk of courage, speed doesn’t really come into it. Demarcated areas (sections) are cordoned off and different coloured flags are used to indicate the different levels of difficulty/skill to get through the section. The object is to get through the section without putting your feet down, hence the name foot-ups. The rider who puts their feet down the least is the winner of their class/level. There are 12 sections per lap and the riders must complete four laps per day. The four levels of riding skill are from easiest to hardest — Clubman (for beginners) , Intermediate , Experts and Pro-elite ( South Africa’s best).
So, why not come and spend the weekend with us — rest assured you will be amazed at what these bikes and riders can do.
Tickets are R80 per adult per day, R40 per child, children under five years free. All amenities and refreshments are available on site.
