HILLCREST resident and netball champ Micaela Viljoen has been selected to attend the 2018 Visions Spellbinding Universal Netball tour in Orlando, Florida.
On behalf of Micaela Viljoen, Jolene Chait said Micaela will be competing against the best of the best from Australia, Bermuda, Canada, England and the USA. “She will train with Vicki Wilson (OAM), who is an Australian netball coach and retired international player and who is currently the head coach of the Netball Fiji side,” said Chait.
For Viljoen, who represents KZN Midlands Action Netball U16 (Captain), KZN Sharks Netball U16 and first team at Epworth School, being selected to attend this prestigious tournament was a dream come true. “I cannot wait to show the rest of the world what South Africans are made of and truly immerse myself in this incredible experience,” said the netball champ.
Chait further said that Viljoen is a versatile all-rounder, excelling in any position from Goal Shooter (GS), Goal Keeper (GK) and Wing Attack (WA). “She is currently in Grade 10 at Epworth School in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal,” said the spokesperson.
In conclusion she said that in the future Micaela hopes to follow in the footsteps of her netball idol, Lenize Potgieter. “She’s the Spar Proteas number one fan but also admires international netball teams such like the Queensland Firebirds and Australian Diamonds,” she said.
