ARMED robbers assaulted a domestic worker near the Upper Highway area while she was busy hanging up washing on Tuesday, July 24 at around 12.30 pm. Swift action by the police led to the arrest of one of the suspects.
Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said a neighbour had reportedly heard the domestic worker screaming out “don’t kill me” during the robbery at a residential premises in Rodger Sishi Road.
“The domestic worker had been outside on a rear sundeck, hanging up clothes to dry, when a suspect ambushed her. He hit her over the head with a metal rod and then locked her in the garage.
“The suspect ransacked the house and made off with a laptop and other valuables,” Mathios said. SAPS responded swiftly to the scene and arrested the suspect in possession of the stolen property.
Speaking on the incident, Mathios said residents spotted suspects on a property in Bernadette Drive, Pinetown, and alerted Blue Security.
“An armed response officer arrived at the scene and found two suspects at the corner of Glenugie Road and King Frederick Place. When the suspects saw the armed response officer approaching them, they pretended to be digging in a rubbish bin. The officer arrested one of the suspects and took him back to the property,” he said.
The suspect was handed over to the Pinetown SAPS. — Supplied.
