SPCA boarding facilities

MAKING sure that one’s pets are safe during the year-end festive season is of the utmost importance to all pet owners.

In order to avoid disappointment, and ensure that their pets are well taken care of during that period, owners are requested to book at the SPCA facilities in advance.

The SPCA’s boarding and run facilities are suitable for dogs of various breeds and sizes. The kennel staff of the SPCA will cater to and care for all personalities of dog. The staff will administer medication, chronic or short term, to the dogs and they will also assist nervous dogs and provide them with calmezee. Dogs will also be given a flea dip during their stay or before they are collected.

If dogs require a special diet, if notified and provided, the staff will make sure the dog receives the correct amount of food. Unfortunately the SPCA will not accommodate puppies less than six months of age or vicious dogs who are adverse to strangers.

Some of the benefits available for the dogs staying at the boarding facility include daily dog walks, blankets, beds, food and water bowls. Kennels are cleaned on a daily basis, and a person will be on the property 24 hours a day to keep an eye on all the boarders.

Speaking on behalf of the SPCA, Michelle Hannan said, “It is very important that early booking is done, especially for December, as we get fully booked over this period and we need to allocate appropriate size kennels to each dog.”

Booking and payment for the year-end festive period needs be done before October 31. The SPCA charges per day, based on the size and breed of the dog.

Full history of the boarding dogs vaccinations need to be provided and updated 10 days before coming to boarding.

Persons interested in volunteering at the SPCA from Mondays to Saturdays must be 16 years or older and a dog lover.

The SPCA accepts any type of donations that can assist them, but are in specific need of puppy and kitten food and blankets for the winter. Organisations are also welcome to host fundraisers in aid of the SPCA.

At the SPCA premises is also a thrift store and book shop, which collects donated items to be resold in order to generate funds.
