IN commemorating the 16 days of Activism, which runs from 25 November to 10 December, the Yenzanathi Project have decided to host a tournament, called the Man Dash Festive Tournament, to help create awareness about children and women abuse. The tournament will be held at the Maqhutshana Sports Ground in KwaNyuswa on Saturday, December 8.
Yenzanathi Project is an organisation that helps orphaned children in the community by providing them with food, clothes and teaching them football to keep them out of trouble.
Administrator and coach of the organisation Phakamani Mkhize said that the reason they are hosting this tournament is because the organisation deals with orphaned children and they want to raise awareness about issues that affect them, such as abuse at the hands of parents and caregivers.
“Our main focus is to try to create awareness that men shouldn’t abuse their wives and children. With this tournament, we want to educate the young ones that they should respect their mothers, sisters and brothers,” he explained.
“Children need to be taught while they still young that what they see being done by their fathers and brothers to their mothers and sisters isn’t the way it supposed to be,” he said.
The coach said that the only problem they are faced with is a lack of sponsors,
“Yenzanathi Project is an NPO and we are appealing to the public to please help us by donating what they can so to make this tournament a success,” he said.
Mkhize appealed for medals, food and soccer kits that they want to give to the teams who will be participating.Those willing to sponsor the tournament can contact Mkhize at 079 060 2341.
