Kouga Humansdorp Lentefees boasts top-class rugby and entertainment

THE first-ever Kouga Humansdorp Lentefees is set to put a blooming spring in festival-goers’ step at the end of the month.

The not-to-be-missed festival, to take place at the Nico Malan High School in Humansdorp from August 31 to September 1, will sport close to 100 stalls - including some 33 agricultural stalls and vehicle stalls - top-class entertainment, a colour run and adrenaline-packed junior and senior rugby action.

Local beauties will also have a chance to take to the stage, while younger children can enjoy a fun time at the supervised Kiddies Fun Zone.

7’s Rugby

One of the biggest attractions to the festival will be the inaugural First Choice 7’s Rugby Elite Tournament, hosted by Nico Malan High School.

The tournament will see a total of 12 schools battle it out on the field - including Paarl boys High (Paarl), Monument High School (Krugersdorp), Outeniqua High (George), Framesby High School (Port Elizabeth), Nico Malan High School (Humansdorp), Brandwag High School (Uitenhage), Daniel Pienaar Technical High School (Uitenhage), Hoër Landbouskool Marlow (George), Graeme College (Grahamstad), Despatch High School (Despatch) and Humansdorp Secondary School (Humansdorp)

Rugby players from various primary schools will take to the field on August 1 from 12:00, while the senior rugby players will come head-to-head on September 1 from 08:00.

The South African 7’s Rugby Academy will also attend the festival.

In good 7’s spirit, the Lentefees will be centred ariybd a cartoon theme.

Entertainment

The festival will kick-off with a wide variety of performances on the Friday from 10:00 to 16:00.

At 12:00 there will be a Seals Tennis Academy Video Analysis Workshop, followed by a colour run from 7:00 to 18:00.

Bok van Blerk will take to the stage at 19:30.

The Saturday will see the Arkfit Crossfit Expo and Seals Tennis Academy Video Analysis Workshop take centre stage at 09:00.

From 10:00 to 11:00 local beauties can take to the catwalk in the first Mnr. en Mej. Lentebloeisel.

Bester die Renoster and Dance Dynamics will entertain audience members, young and old, from 11:00 to 12:00, while the Kouga Community Choir will take over from 12:00 to 13:00.

Joe Grobler will take to the stage at 14:00, followed by Songs of Iris at 15:00 and Dawie du Plessis at 16:00.

Well-known entertainer and comedian, Gino Fabbri from Centrestage in Port Elizabeth, will have the audience roaring with laughter at 19:00.

There will also be a beer tent for the duration of the festival.

The festival started with the idea of a 7’s rugby tournament, the brainchild of Lex Gutche from Woodlands Dairy, and quickly developed into a two-day festival - catering for the whole community.

Event organiser Riaan Olivier from Nico Malan High School says, “My wish and that of the relevant roleplayers are that the festival will be a great success and develop into an annual event on the Kouga calendar.

“We want festival-goers to sit back, relax and enjoy a top-class festival right on their doorsteps.”

It is expected that between 6 000 and 8 000 people will attend the festival over the two days.

The entrance fee to the festival on Friday, August 31 is R30 for adults and R20 for children, while the entrance fee on Saturday, September 1 is R50 for adults and R20 children. Children u.5 enter for free on both days.
