Be wary of new crime pattern

MOUNTAIN Rise Police spokesperson, Captain Gay Ebrahim has urged the public to take extra care of their vehicles during the day and night in light of a recent crime pattern analysis.

“Criminals and opportunists are on the prowl, waiting for vulnerable or soft targets.

“People are not alert that criminals are lurking around, waiting and watching for opportunities to break in and steal from motor vehicles,” said Ebrahim, who urged motorists to ensure that their valuables are locked up in the boot of their cars so that it is not visible.

Ebrahim said that there have also been instances where items or personal property have been stolen from cars and sold to second-hand dealers by the thieves who act as if the items are theirs.

“We advise those who open cases of theft regarding their vehicles to visit local second-hand dealers as soon as the property is stolen because as owners of the missing property you will have the best opportunity in identifying the property immediately,” urged Ebrahim, who added that this is a concept called “community policing partnership” which is where the community work hand in hand with the police in order to fight crime.

In closing, Ebrahim said that when it came to cellphones that have been stolen, complainants are advised to visit second-hand dealers to check for their stolen phones as all business owners are required to keep proper records of sale of cellphones and sim cards.
