Hospice hosts marathon couple

STEVE and Eleanor Pienaar are passionate about travel and running. The power couple have run many marathons in South Africa, including the Comrades Marathon. Steve has his green number and Eleanor has her back to back. They have also run the New York, London, Great Wall, Sydney, Rio and Antarctic Ice marathons.

The Pienaars were the first South African couple to complete seven marathons on seven continents, becoming members of the prestigious Seven Continents Club in late 2016 after running the Antarctic Ice Marathon.

This phenomenal couple recently made history again by becoming the first South Africans to run in and complete the North Pole Marathon, one of the toughest races in the world, running the marathon on moving sea ice in sub-zero conditions.

Their finishing time was nine hours, one minute and 11 seconds.

The completion of this marathon also saw them earn the prestigious “Grand Slam” title, awarded to runners who have completed a recognised marathon or ultramarathon on each of the continents.

The Msunduzi Hospice Association invites audiences to join them for their Grand Slam Presentation as this power couple share their incredible story of hope, courage and perseverance. The event is set to take place on Saturday, August 25 at 9 pm at the Msunduzi Hospice, 200 Zwartkop Road, Prestbury.

Tickets cost R50 per person and all proceeds will benefit the Msunduzi Hospice Association.
