A PELHAM man had his electricity disconnected this weekend and was slapped with a R44 000 bill — despite claiming to be up to date and even paying one month in advance.
Vaughan Green said he came home on Saturday to find a bill on his front gate with the large outstanding fee.
He is the latest resident to hit back at Msunduzi for an unreasonable bill.
Green said he had paid his bill of R1 800 for the month of August at the start of the month, despite his bill only being due this week.
“I wasn’t at home when the disconnection happened. My neighbours said they saw guys climbing up a pole to get into my house.”
The Witness reported recently that electricity contractors were being escourted by security guards to allow them to get into properties when no one was home.
“I am definitely up to date with my payments. But the problem is I am a tenant at the house and my landlord lives in Richards Bay. But when he tries to contact the municipality to try and resolve the issue, they [the City] never respond.”
