SEEING that winter is slowly creeping in at our doorsteps, and early mornings are starting to get cold, Youth for Christ KwaZulu-Natal (YFC/KZN), in partnership with donations received from Epworth School, organised an outreach programme on Friday, February 22.
YFC/KZN visited a newly-built school in Ezinketheni where they engaged with pupils and distributed school jerseys and stationary.
Umsilinga deputy principal Mdu Ndlovu, who assisted in organising the event, shared his sincere appreciation and gratitude regarding the initiative.
“As teachers and parents, we are highly appreciate of what YFC did for our children today. I am touched and overwhelmed by the reaction of pupils as they were receiving jerseys and stationary”, said Ndlovu.
Grade 2 pupil Minenhle Ndaba could not hold back her tears of joy, saying that she couldn’t believe that she finally has a school jersey, pencil case and exercise books. “I am excited and cannot wait to wear my new jersey. I do not have to wear a colourful jersey to school anymore and my pencils will be stored properly inside my pencil case” said a happy Minenhle.
YFC/KZN Acting Director Liz Govender said that the organisation firmly believes in giving hope to children and youth, saying: “This outreach programme was a way of engaging with the learners and giving support to children coming from less privileged backgrounds.”
