TWO goals from Maritzburg United were not enough to overcome Highlands Park as the team of choice failed to end their winless run in the Absa Premiership, extending it to four games.
There were early scares for the home team as Highlands Tendai Ndoro volleyed wide after being picked out at the far post in the tenth minute and later had his shot denied by some good goalkeeping from United’s number one, Richard Ofori.
The team of choice opened the floodgates in the four goal thriller as Yannick Zakri headed home in the 23rd minute to make it 1-0.
United did well to keep the pressure on Highlands, forcing them to play in their own half, but could not take the lead into the second half as Lindokuhle Mbatha’s low strike from close range allowed the sides to go into the break deadlocked at 1-1.
Four minutes into the second half and United fans were overcome with joy as Mohau Mokate headed in at the near post to put the home side in the lead.
An increase in pace in the second half kept the crowd entertained and Mvala eventually brought Highlands back into the game for the second time in the match, with a goal being scored via a header to make it 2-2.
Ofori ensured that the scores remained level when he made a crucial save after a mistake at the back for United allowed second half substitute Moeketsi Sekola to go one-on-one with him.
