ALTHOUGH the much-awaited annual Ward 34 Community Awards is expected to be epic this year, organisers are desperate and appealing for assistance.
According to one of the organisers, founder and local veteran journalist Jerry Barnes, the aim of the event is to honour community members that are contributing positively to the community and in different spheres of life.
Barnes also confirms that the date has been set aside for the colourful event, but they are face a huge challenge to make it happen.
“Last year we were able to honour about more than 30 recipients because we had a Good Samaritan that funded trophies and medals.
“This time around I am still walking and knocking around asking for help from potential sponsors, but thus far and unfortunately there’s nothing looking positive in order to make it happen,”said Barnes.
Although currently there are a couple of challenges about the event, Barnes says during the very first event in 2017 the local organising committee (Loc) worked around the clock to pull it off under the guidance of ward 34 councillor, Mike Amod, and nothing will stop them again this time around.
“I may be worried for now, but we are all prepared to work hard to attract partners and sponsors, just to honour our community.
“We are very lucky because all the members of our Loc are strong in faith and mark my words, it will happen,”said Barnes.
This year’s event is scheduled for September 14 at Eastwood Civic Centre.
The public can nominate their favourite community members by sending their full names and a brief profile.
