Easter tournament finally concluded

THE long-awaited Zakhele Football Association (ZAFA) Lecira Junior League Easter Tournament finals were finally played at Wolfson Stadium on Saturday.

ZAFA president Jomo Mtati told PE Express that the reason for running the programme so late was that their junior teams did not have current season players’ cards.

Mtati stated that after their junior teams were properly registered, they played their league which was followed by the ZAFA Lecira Junior League Tournament.

“We wanted to do things right.

“The junior league programme took a long time and we have many teams. So after that we ran the ZAFA Lecira Junior League Easter Tournament. I am very happy that our teams did not panic but they knew that this programme would be played.”

In the u/11 finals, Young Neighbours defeated Stone Breakers 1-0.

It was a do-or-die situation when Brazil Brothers FC won 6-5 in sudden death after the final score was goalless in their ZAFA Lecira Junior League U/13 finals against Golden Brothers.

In the u/15 finals, Brazil Brothers defeated Dynamos FC 8-7 in sudden death, following the 2-2 full-time score.

In the u/17 finals, United Comrades FC became the champions with a 2-0 victory over Golden Brothers.

The winning teams received a full set of kit, floating trophies and gold medals. Mtati thanked their sponsor, Lecira, for making the event a success.

“I want to thank our sponsors Lecira for developing our grassroots soccer. Lecira have helped to keep the keep the youth off the street,” he said.
