AN Exciting Educational Expo – EduEx, the first of its kind in Port Elizabeth – will take place on Friday, August 31, and Saturday, September 1.
It will be held at Elsen Academy in Bird Street, Central.
The aim of EduEx is to provide a platform where parents, teachers and professionals can meet and establish networks. Organisers Chrizelle Prinsloo, owner of Kip McGrath Education Centres Walmer and Wilene Wiggill, owner of Wilene Wiggill Occupational Therapy Inc. realised that parents were often overwhelmed by the number of extra-curricular activities and therapies available for their children.
EduEx creates an opportunity for parents to meet with health care professionals, suppliers of educational support materials and service providers working in the field of education.
Parents will be able to ask those burning questions and select the most suitable therapy or service to meet their child’s individual needs.
During the course of the weekend, short presentations will be held by a variety of professionals and specialists in their fields who represent the spectrum of educational services.
Expert Express will provide short bursts of information to answer some of the frequently asked questions in the various fields.
Chrizelle Prinsloo has taught in many educational settings and realised that teachers often deal with matters which cannot be resolved within the school system. Schools do not always have the luxury of a multidisciplinary or an academic support team. Teachers will benefit from attending EduEx by building a referral base for support services.
- Elsen Academy caters for the needs of children in Port Elizabeth with learning barriers such as dyslexia, ADHD, as well as emotional and social barriers that make attending larger and more traditional schools a challenge.
