A PE Express freelance correspondent, Selby Madikane, was robbed at gunpoint on Saturday, July 28, at a sports tournament in New Brighton.
The incident occurred around noon, when Madikane escorted learners from Seyisi Primary School to a cluster tournament against Reeds College from the United Kingdom.
“I made sure that there were no learners left behind in the parking area when two men approached me from behind a wall to ask about the tournament taking place,” Madikane said.
The two suspects held Madikane at gunpoint and demanded his camera, camera bag, cellphone and money.
“They said that they would shoot me if I did not give them what they asked for.”
Madikane was in shock, but eventually gave the men his belongings and money.
“I was devastated because my camera was taken and I cannot do my job without it.
“The men also took my lens that was in the bag and I cannot afford new equipment.”
Madikane reported the incident to the New Brighton Police Station and a case of robbery is currently being investigated.
