Fighting fires with courage

THE Reach for a Dream Foundation held its Captain Courage project on November 9, when a group of boys with life-threatening illness went to the Nelson Mandela Bay Fire Department for a fun day filled with activities.

The boys had the chance to be firefighters for a day, requiring them to do various activities and interact with the firefighters, where bravery was the highlight of the day.

“It is very important that the theme of the Captain Courage outing is linked with bravery,” said Michelle van Huyssteen, brand manager of Reach for a Dream in Port Elizabeth.

“It is not a mere party, but wants to give these boys acknowledgement for their own bravery for dealing with their illnesses and make them realise that they have had the same courage as the brave survivor, firefighter or a gladiator.”

The firefighters awarded the boys with medals, acknowledging their bravery in fighting their illnesses and for being able to do the various activities.
