PORT Elizabeth-born rapper, Earl Swartz, more commonly known as Early B, achieved gold status for his two singles, “Ben Ten” and “Potte”, released through the Universal Music Group.
The singles have been taking over the radio waves across South Africa, and have now become anthems to sing at every festival he performs at. Universal Music recently congratulated Early B on his single, “Ben Ten”, which sold more than 10 000 copies. He has now become the first Afrikaans rapper from Port Elizabeth to achieve gold status.
Adding to this accolade for the rapper from Bloemendal, is the announcement of his second single, “Potte”, which debuted on the 5FM Hip-Hop charts at number one.
Early B made history when both his singles made the top 10 list simultaneously – the first rapper to have two Afrikaans songs in their top 10, with “Potte” at number one and “Ben Ten” at number seven. His single, “Potte”, features renowned rapper, Jack Parow, and acclaimed DJ Justin Vega, both from Cape Town.
“I knew ‘Potte’ would be a banger of a note, the moment I heard the beat that Justin created. And then when Jack Parow agreed to feature, there was no other way but up,” Early B said.
Ghoema music awards nomination
Early B has been nominated for three Ghoema music awards in the following categories:
. Newcomer of the year
. Best hip-hop song of the year
. Best hip-hop album.

Hardly an overnight success, Early B first came to public attention a decade ago as part of the duo MCs Earl and Agemi, whose song “Dakskroef” was a big hit on radio and the MK television channel in 2010.
The 30-year-old rapper is currently touring South Africa with his album, Aangename Kennis. He also had an appearance on the kykNET series, Arendsvlei, where he performed his hit song, “Ben Ten”. He uses his tagline, “Van Die Dal Af”, in every performance to remind people from his humble neighbourhood that success is possible with hard work and dedication.
The bilingual rapper who recently performed at a sold out Heart FM Festival in Cape Town, calls his style of rap unique, razor sharp and true with a touch of humour. With “Potte”still at number one on iTunes South Africa Afrikaans charts after four weeks, there is no doubt that he is a force that will keep breaking barriers.
