Gunners bounce back against Red Roses

NELSON Mandela Bay-based side City Lads Ladies made a play for log leaders Thunderbirds Ladies’ top spot when they collected the all-important three points in their Sasol League away game against Red Roses at Mount Frere Stadium on Saturday.

Following their loss last Saturday, Gunners Ladies, as City Lads are known by their football fans, defeated the strong side of Red Roses 1-0 on their home turf.

However, Gunners were not shaken by the home side and showed that they wanted to take the top spot on the log table.

Gunners, boosted by experienced players, displayed their football skills to win the match away from home.

Another Nelson Mandela Bay side, Golden Stars, shared a 3-3 draw with Executive Ladies at the PE College Dower Campus Grounds.

Stars embarrassed their neighbours, Highbury Ladies, in their 4-1 win last Saturday. Despite their 2-1 defeat against Eluhewini Ladies, Ayakha Stars accumulated three points in their 1-0 victory over Cumakala Ladies at the KSD TVET College Grounds in Cicira Village, Mthatha.

Sophakama Ladies drew 1-1 with Birmingham City Ladies in front of their home supporters at Zwide Stadium.

Log leaders Thunderbirds made sure that they cemented their top position on the Sasol Ladies’ League log table after they edged out Bashee Eagles 4-2 at the Walter Sisulu University Ibika Campus Fields in Butterworth.

Manchester Babes Ladies’ home supporters could not believe their eyes when their side succumbed 4-0 to Eastern Rangers Ladies at Jabavu Stadium in Kwanobuhle.

Highbury Ladies redeemed themselves after they trounced Eluhewini Ladies 5-2 in their home game at Bridgemeade Grounds, while University of Fort Hare (UFH) played their hearts out in a 2-1 loss to Amanqilo Birds at the UFH Grounds in Alice.
