Health train is back

THE Transnet initiative, Phelophepa, will once again deliver healthcare services to poor communities in Port Elizabeth via train at Swartkops station this month.

The initiative is directed at assisting the Department of Health to deliver health services in all the provinces except Gauteng.

Phelophepa brings a health clinic, an eye clinic, a dental clinic and a psychology clinic to those in need.

In addition to these clinics, Phelophepa has an on-board pharmacy and also carries out outreach programmes to selected schools, older persons and people living with a disability.

Lathitha Training and HR Solutions has been appointed by Transnet Freight Rail as a social mobiliser for the Eastern Cape.

The train will visit the following areas:

  • January 21 to 25 at Swartkops station in Port Elizabeth
  • January 28 to February 1 at Swartkops station in Port Elizabeth
  • February 4 to 8 in Komani (formerly known as Queenstown)
  • February 11 to 15 in Komani
  • February 18 to 22 February in Mthatha
  • February 25 to March 1 in Mthatha
  • March 4 to 8 March in Dutywa
  • March 11 to 15 March in Dutywa
  • March 18 to 22 March in Mount Ruth
  • March 28 to 29 March in Mount Ruth

The train operates on a first come first served basis and it uses a ticket system whereby a certain number of tickets are issued per day.

Once everyone with a ticket has been assisted, no one else will further be assisted for that day. Residents are urged to arrive early and to bring along their clinic card, including immunisation cards for children.
