Municipality relaunches Bay Stars Awards

THE Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality recently relaunched the annual Bay Stars Employee Excellence Awards on Tuesday, July 24, during an event at the Feather Market Centre.

The programme was launched in 2009 and has been reintroduced after a four-year gap.

The awards are set to acknowledge, recognise, celebrate and reward employee excellence to enhance service delivery, improve the levels of customer service, support the culture of performance and position the municipality as an employer of choice.

Various testimonies were given by previous winners of the Bay Stars Awards to spark enthusiasm among employees.

According to the municipal spokesperson, Mthubanzi Mniki, the Bay Stars Awards ended due to issues related to sponsorship and also to review the awards, their impact and whether to retain the existing categories.

The Bay Stars Awards are considered to be vital for improved service delivery in Nelson Mandela Bay.

“This programme is intended to recognise and express leadership’s appreciation to hardworking and loyal staff,” Member of the Mayoral Commitee: Human Resource and Corporate Administration, Annette Lovemore, said.

There are various award categories, which municipal employees will be nominated for:

. Individual customer care service award

. Team customer care service award

. Team award

. Woman achiever award

. Mentoring award

. Leadership award

. Innovation award

. Administrative award

. Hero’s award

The nominations for the awards close on September 30 and the winners will be announced during the first week of December.
