THE residents of Ward 8 have an additional voting district to ease the congestion experienced in the previous municipal election.
Ward 8 councillor Gustav Rautenbach said, “After the municipal election in August 2016, my office has received numerous requests that something must be done as there were too many voters registered at the PE Riding Club voting station.”
According to Rautenbach the PE Riding Club had more than 6 300 voters registered on the voters’ roll at that time.
“I have engaged the IEC (Independent Electoral Commission of South Africa) for some time with proposals to split the PE Riding Club voting station to create an additional new voting station,” said Rautenbach.
The additional voting station is the Emmanuel Church at 31 Macon Road, Lorraine (VD 10251919).
Ward 8 will now exist of four voting stations, namely PE Riding Club in Bergeus Street, Lorraine; Lorraine Primary School in Meuse Avenue, Lorraine; Legacy Life Church at 6 Glenroy Drive, Glenroy; and Emmanuel Church in Macon Road, Lorraine. Various measures have been taken to inform residents who fall under the new voting district and ought to register at the new voting station.
