NMB Urban Run: Tackle the city for charity

THE popular Nelson Mandela Bay Urban Run returns to the Port Elizabeth CBD on Sunday, September 9, with another exciting 7km obstacle race through the heart of the city, all in aide of charity.

An action-packed weekend of festivities, hosted by the Mandela Bay Development Agency (MBDA), kicks off on Saturday, September 8, with a three hour Fitness Fiesta on the Donkin Reserve between 07:00 and 11:00 hosted by Metrogym.

Activities in this free-to-enter fiesta include boot camp, taebo, aerobics, hip-hop, steps and outdoor spinning with the first 100 attendees each getting themselves a free T-shirt. Also included on the Saturday is the Urban Run collection of race packs, drone racing and the Kids’ Urban Run, a 2km to 3km obstacle run.

Having raised over R1 million for charity since its inception in Port Elizabeth, the Urban Run also highlights urban renewal and the work which the MBDA undertakes each year in this area.

The feature Urban Run obstacle race through the city takes place on the Sunday, September 9, starting at 08:00 with the hilarious Gino Fabbri warming up the participants ahead of a best-dressed competition at 08:45am where the winner(s) will walk away with a cool R500 Caltex fuel voucher.

The spectacular start, with Gino on a manlift performing above the participants, is done in four stages according to the charity levels the participants have achieved.

The best vantage points for the public will be the Donkin Reserve (start, cerebos slip and slide and the skipgo obstacle), Fort Frederick (orb signs climbing obstacle), behind the town hall (Caltex obstacle), the harbour (with no fewer than six exciting obstacles) and St Mary’s Cemetery.

As is tradition with the Urban Run, all participants are required to raise a minimum of R100 for Cleary Estate Cheshire Home, with four levels of goody bags on offer, based on the amount raised.

The Altruists, those raising more than R500, will also get access into the VIP zone on registration and race days.

Registration, collection of race packs and late entries are open between 10:00 and 14:00 on Saturday; no entries or collection are possible on the Sunday.

Online registration can be done on www.UrbanRun.co.za. For more info contact Zsports Events NPC on 041 484 7860.
