BE careful what you wish for as St George’s Preparatory School brings Stephen Sondheim’s and James Lapine’s cock-eyed fairytale to life in this adaptation of their groundbreaking, award-winning musical, Into the Woods Junior.
The show, consisting of approximately 100 learners, runs from today, Wednesday September 19, to Friday September 21, and the performances will take place at 11:30 and 18:00 daily in the school’s Jan Immelman hall.
The morning performances are geared towards accommodating large groups from local and surrounding primary schools.
The show will also feature all the young ones’ favourite characters such as Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack (and his beanstalk) and the Witch in the lyrically rich retelling of classic Brothers Grimm fables.
The musical centres on a baker and his wife, who wish to have a child, Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King’s festival and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk.
When the baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a witch’s curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse and wind up changed forever.
The show boasts an award winning production team, with Annaline Stiglingh as director, Junene du Toit as musical director, Courtney Pearce as choreographer, and Jenny Maltby seeing to the set.
Tickets are available from Gill Pattison during school hours on 041 585 4825 or via e-mail prep@stgeorges.co.za at R50 and R20 for school block bookings (10 or more tickets).
