Teams continue heated battle for PELFA league title

CURRENT log leaders, Callies, and Central Acemates played out a close 1-1 draw in the PELFA Old Buck Gin League.

Mbuyiselo Sambu gave Acemates the lead from the penalty spot 23 minutes into the second half. For Callies, Dillon Ger- mishuys equalised from Karl Pereira’s cross in the dying minutes of the game.

In another game, Fairview Rovers’ push for the league honours continued when they got the better of Mahle Old Grey 3-2.

Goals by Tertius Afrikaner for Rovers and Donovan Humphreys for Old Grey saw tied 1-1 at half-time.

Kagan Assam had Old Grey up 2-1 early in the second half, but quick goals from Sharief Mamoojee and Nathan Jones ensured three points for Rovers.

The 2017 league winners, Kuyga Masters, also resumed their climb up the log ladder with a solid 3-0 beating of PE City. Thuso Lefosa netted for Kuyga in the first half, followed by goals from Mazvarira Isheunesu and Ludonga Mmzukisi in the second half.

NMBM outlasted St Albans 2-1 in their match. Tekiso Mntwana scored for St Albans deep into the first half.

Shamrocks were back to their winning ways when they snuck a 2-1 win past Westpark. Bubble Naidoo came up with a goal in each half for Shamrocks and Shane Jeneker scored five minutes into the first half for Westpark.

African Leopards also outplayed Priory 4-3. For Leopards, Sipho Solomon scored in the first half, followed in the second half by goals from Andile McClean and Loyiso Ntombana.

Deon Carolus scored for Priory in the 20th minute of the first half. Brent Kopps helped himself to a brace for Priory in the second half.
