The Observatory Civic Association (OCA) is having its annual meeting today (Tuesday 13 November).
A statement from the association’s chairperson, Tauriq Jenkins, calls on residents to join the meeting and a celebration of its one-year anniversary since the attempted “civic capture” of Obs.
“Your participation helps build a better, stronger and more inclusive community!”
The association says it is very important that residents come to support and safeguard the civic association.The meeting is scheduled for 18:00 at the Observatory Community Centre.To participate in the meeting, one must be a paid-up member for the 2018/19 year.
The OCA asks residents to join or renew their membership online as soon as possible, via obs.org.za/membership.
“Please help us grow by encouraging friends and neighbours to do the same. Membership is R50 for individuals, R20 for students and pensioners, and R250 for businesses,” the OCA says in a statement.
Some major issues for the meeting include the election of the next committee. Nominees will be listed at obs.org.za/agm before the meeting. Residents are urged to consider standing for election to the committee, or to convince another OCA member to stand.
Possible legal action over Malta Park will also feature. After 10 months of protests and inquiries regarding irregular fencing of Malta Park and the Hartleyvale lease, the OCA must decide if it will take legal action, says the statement.
Residents are invited to come and share their voices on Two Rivers Urban Park.
“The threat of a ‘Canal Walk-style’ development on the sensitive floodplain ancient heritage terrain of the Liesbeek continues. The OCA, along with the TRUP Association, is holding the line and needs your support. And there’s also a lot to celebrate! Thank you for saving water! Observatory Water Warriors together with OCA’s water and sanitation task group thank you for doing your part!”
