Noordhoek Tourism was formed when a few members of the community came together to discuss ways to promote the beautiful neighbourhood and drive community events to benefit all people residing in the valley.
“We come together every now and then in the Noordhoek Community Centre on Avondrust Circle (next to Jakes Restaurant) on a voluntary basis. Through the years the members have changed but the concept has been around for a few years and some of the events are repeated annually,” says Michele Bower of Noordhoek Tourism.
“One of the events being showcased on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 October is the ‘Open Gardens’ event which showcases some of the beautiful privately owned and maintained gardens to the public for young and old to enjoy together. This event draws garden enthusiasts of all ages to visit our beautiful valley to enjoy these beautiful gardens, and the people who are on show are purely also voluntary,” she says.
The “Open Gardens” will take place from 10:00 to 16:00 and the cost is R25 for a single entry pass, R125 for a day pass and R200 for a weekend pass. Under 18s enter for free and there are pensioner discounts available. After the event there will be a prize-giving ceremony for the best voted garden in various categories, to be held over the weekend of Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 October.
