CRIME WRAP

V Rondebosch: Police are looking for a man who allegedly stole from a resident while posing as a City of Cape Town official on Thursday 2 August. Warrant Officer Lyndon Sisam, police spokesperson, says the suspect is described as a tall, thin black man, wearing a baseball cap, a maroon jersey and blue jeans. He introduced himself to a resident as a member of the City Council and said he needed to inspect her electricity metre to grant a rebate. “The suspect told the complainant that the council was replacing electrical plugs and he had to count them while the complainant had to remain in the kitchen switching the mains on and off. He then went from room to room checking and counting the plugs.” Sisam says the owner only later realised some of her items were missing. “Residents are warned to be vigilant as there are scammers trying to find ways to convince you to open your security for them.”
