On 17 September 2017, I started participating in road-running races and joined the MSA Multisport Running Club. During races, I noticed some runners with earphones connected to their mobile devices. They were listening to up-tempo music which encouraged them to jog to the beat, resulting in a diminished ability to hear oncoming vehicles.
Race conveners have requested runners to refrain from this habit. More so, I noticed that pedestrians also have the same habit of walking with earphones plugged in. The danger is that the plugged-in earphones diminish one’s ability to hear oncoming vehicles or potential attackers, and thus pose a huge safety and security risk.
Be warned when plugging in earphones – it may cost you dearly.
