The finalists of this year’s Community Champions Elders Awards, presented by People’s Post and Spec-Savers, have been selected.
They are:
. Beatrice Elizabeth Barrett (73) from Gardens
. Wilhelmiena Minnaar from Eastridge, Mitchell’s Plain
. Eunice Patiwe (70) from Langa
. Elizabeth Adams (82) from Ocean View
. Marjorie Eksteen (81) from Bridgetown, Athlone
. Hettie Venter (87) from Loevenstein, Bellville.
Selecting the top three in each category was once again a gruelling task. “They all sound like such wonderful altruists, it was difficult to decide” and “reading stories like these definitely puts your own life in more perspective” were some of the comments received from the panel of judges.
People’s Post will feature each of these awesome elders and the amazing work they do, over the next six weeks, after which the public will get a chance to vote for the People’s Choice winner.
The winners in each category as well as the People’s Choice winner will be announced at a special brunch taking place at Villagio Pizzeria in Pinelands on Saturday 6 October.
Each finalist will receive prizes including their share in Shoprite vouchers valued at R10 000 in total, Spec-Savers vouchers for an eye test, frames and lenses to the value of R4000, hampers by Dilmah teas, and more.
