Honouring helpful athletes
Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon (Ontom) in conjunction with Nantes Athletics Club held a medal presentation evening in Athlone on Thursday, for the family of the late Feroza Vermeulen.
The athlete died earlier this year before reaching the finish line at the annual Two Oceans Marathon (“Sad race for Athlone family”, People’s Post, 17 April).
The presentation evening held at the club’s premises was to also honour several athletes who unselfishly forfeited their race to assist Vermeulen on the day.
Nantes club members honoured for their unselfish efforts included Gadijah Kallies, Faisha Andrews, Rasheedah Abrahams, Caroline Peters and Achmat Adonis.
Vermeulen’s son Musaddiq Vermeulen also received a medal along with the two doctors and a participant who performed CPR on his mother.
