Is this City still working for you?

In response to Wendy’s letter “Paying for what’s already paid in full” (People’s Post) on 21 August, the City was very strategic:

1. They loaded all pre-paid units to our rates bill a couple of months ago.

2. Then they increased electricity rate for all properties over R400 000 – no more low consumption users and no free units if you were a previous low consumption user.

3. Then the City decided to charge a R150 surcharge for electricity if your property is more than a million rand.

4. If you do not have a pre-paid metre and your property valuation is below a million rand you will also pay the R150 surcharge.

Increase in revenue is the only reason why the City are charging us surcharges on water and electricity because the City is losing out on boreholes and solar panels.
