Three men, aged between 18 and 29, were arrested on Thursday morning at 01:35 after being found with a presumed stolen car and two illegal firearms with live ammunition.
The arrest came after the trio drove over a red traffic light at the intersection of Jan Smuts and Turfhall roads, not noticing that there was a police vehicle behind them.
Acting swiftly, Cape Town K9 Unit sergeant Siko Badasi and his partner pulled them over, checked the blue VW Polo and discovered that it had been reported stolen in the Claremont area. Upon searching the vehicle two firearms were also recovered, one from the driver and another one from the back passenger.
All three were arrested on the spot, facing charges of possession of a stolen motor vehicle and possession of illegal firearms with 12 live rounds of ammunition.
Two of the suspects have pending cases of possession of firearms against them and the third has a pending drug-dealing charge against him.
All three suspects are from Hanover Park.
