After the passing of his parents, Karel Esau of Wynberg wrote down his emotions to work through his sorrow to find healing. In the process he released two Christian inspirational books and is currently busy with his third book to give thanks to God.
“Through the grace of God I was able to write down my feelings and to tell the world that He is alive. I compiled a book and sent it to different publishers. I also wrote inspirational columns for a local newspaper in the Southern Cape. I did this to expose the readers to my writing and I realised that I must focus on writing,” he says.
He has published an Afrikaans and an English book, respectively titled As ek nie geglo het nie and I Speak Peace.
He is one of three children and his passion and love for God gave him the strength to write.
“At the moment I am compiling a book of faith with short stories and I hope that I will reach the same heights with the third one as with the other two. My dream is to help the youth in my community to read and write more to give vent to their emotions. I believe by reading and writing you’ll keep kids off the streets and out of mischief. I also believe that if you start something then you fall in love with it. That is what was happening with me when I started writing,” Esau says.
Before he started focusing exclusively on writing he was a baker in a bakery.
His current publishers, Malherbe Publishers, first met him when he was looking for someone to proofread his book about he overcame sorrow after the death of his parents.
“I was browsing on the internet and discovered their website and sent the manuscript for contemplation. Only six months after sending it to them, they phoned me and thanked me for submitting the book. They were impressed with the book and said that my book should fit in the inspirational section of bookshops. The rest is history,” Esau says.
