It’s been a long time since I entered a courtroom. Wynberg Magistrate’s Court was abuzz as usual when I participated in a women’s network picket to oppose bail for a suspect who had allegedly violated a 13-year-old girl from Athlone.
She is scarred for life. During this Women’s Month, men must take a strong stance to eradicate the ongoing horrendous abuse of women and children. Statistics reveal that a woman is raped every 26 seconds, by men. Our picketing and handing over of a memorandum to the newly appointed ombudsman general, Major Johan Brand, outside the court symbolises our anger and absolute rejection of rapists and their kind. Collectively we must be held accountable for the evil that men do.
Enough is enough.
