Sun Valley customers

Customers of Sun Valley Mall showed again that they are a truly giving and caring community when the mall was inundated with donations for a local animal welfare charity, Tears Animal Rescue.

The mall joined hands with Tears in the mall’s winter drive during July by donating food and other necessities for the animals.

Large donation boxes were stationed in the mall, encouraging customers to donate food, blankets and other contributions that would assist Tears in caring for animals in need.

The customers of Sun Valley Mall opened their hearts and cupboards once again, as the first donations were made within an hour after the collection boxes were delivered to the centre.

A total of 549 items were donated to this worthy cause, which were presented to Tears on Friday 3 August.

All items were handed over to Tears director and co-founder Marilyn Hoole by Sun Valley Mall centre manager, Lauren Pitout.

Sun Valley Mall centre management and Tears Animal Rescue would like to sincerely thank all customers who contributed so compassionately to this deserving cause.

The breakdown of all items donated is as follows: 120 cans of food, 98 packs of wet food treats, 14 boxes of biscuit treats, 54 large bags of dry food, 87 small bags of dry food, 15 toys, seven bowls, 72 blankets, 21 jackets, six pillows, 54 duvets, one bottle of shampoo and one collar.

“All donations will be distributed and Tears made a list of where everything will be donated. Biscuits and treats will go to the volunteering dog walkers to use as treats when they are walking and training the shelter dogs and puppies,” says Hoole.

Dry dog food will be donated to the impoverished communities which Tears visits frequently. The Feral Cat Project will receive dry cat food in bags and wet food will be used at the cattery, kennels and hospital as needed.

“The beds donated will be used at the cattery and the blankets at the kennels, cattery, kittenry, puppy facility, clinic, hospital and isolation wards. Dog jackets will be used for all Tears shelter dogs and puppies and duvets for all senior dogs and their housed-in enclosures. Toys will be used at the Tears shelter for all animals and will be used with their enrichment programmes,” says Hoole.
