It has only been two weeks since the death of a well-known Islamic scholar from Athlone, and a local organisation is already starting projects in his memory.
Earlier this month, Awqaf SA announced the establishment of the Moulana Ihsaan Hendricks Waqf Fund as a tribute to the community leader and activist.
Hendricks, who passed away at the age of 53 on Sunday 10 August after a long illness, always had a keen interest in Islamic scholarship.
The newly established R50 000 endowment fund was established five days after his death with the aim to aid the Shaykh Abul-Husain ‘Ali al-Nadwi Leadership Academy, an institute founded by Hendricks himself to further his vision of guiding the youth.
Mickaeel Collier from Awqaf SA says: “We are delighted that the proceeds of the Moulana Ihsaan Hendricks Waqf Fund will go towards training young scholars through the Shaykh Abul-Hasan Nadwi Institute that he founded. Moulana Ihsaan was a visionary with outstanding leadership abilities. We feel that his selfless passion and willingness to serve the community is something we had to pay tribute to, as the community lost a great leader who made a massive contribution.”
