Filmmaker to attend Nigerian festival
A FILMMAKER from Murchison will soon be representing the South Coast at the Nigerian International Film Festival, this after being selected as one of the top ten producers at an Africa Television Market event recently.
At the mentorship event, held at the Elangeni Hotel from July 19 to July 22, Eric Mbitamkhono (33) was also nominated as the best content producer among the group, which included other filmmakers from Durban and surrounds.
Mbitamkhono, who grew up in Mtwalume, is the founder and a director of two companies, namely MsaLwa Production and SA Smart FilmArt.
As part of the nomination, Mbitamkhono was given a voucher to Nigeria for the duration of the festival which runs from September 3 to September 6.
Mbitamkhono said he was grateful for the opportunity, saying: “I will get an opportunity to play the trailer of my local short film, titled Ngizenze Mina, produced by Msa Mbitamkhono and written by Lwazi Mbitamkhono. I will also be meeting well-known producers from Canada, U.S.A, Nigeria, China and other countries. ”
It is unclear if the entire film, which showcases the beauty and talent of the South Coast, will be played at the event.
“Thank you so much to Africa Television Market for paying for my flight and accommodation. This truly is a once in a lifetime opportunity where I will get a chance to market and advertise my content,” said Mbitamkhono.
Founder of Africa Television Market (ATM) Lungelo Nxele is well known for producing content for Mzansi Magic Movies, SABC’s Intersexions, UGugu no Andile and more.
