Frustration over further delays of corruption report

THE Ray Nkonyeni Municipality council expressed dissatisfaction at yet another delay of the report on alleged corruption in the Ezinqoleni municipality, which has since merged with the Hibiscus Coast Municipality.

During an in-committee session of its monthly meeting on Tuesday, former Ezinqoleni councillors and officials were excused from the meeting.

Municipal Manager Max Mbili said that, although the report had been completed by the Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC) and handed to Cooperative Governance and Traditional affairs (Cogta), who commissioned the investigation, the internal protocols of the provincial department concerning the report had not been completed yet.

Cogta promised to submit the report last Friday to the RNM, for presentation to the council on Tuesday, but some necessary processes were not finalised in time.

A source within the council alleged that there is political influence in the matter.

When questioned on the matter at the media briefing, Municipal Manager Max Mbili said the council was not happy with the situation.

The RNM council has now given Cogta a deadline of August 15 to complete the protocols, this so that the report could be given to council on the next council meeting.

“MPAC has made it clear that, if these deadlines are not met, it will withdraw from the process,” said Mbili .
