IED acting general manager appointed
FORMER Izinqoleni municipal manager and the Ugu South Coast Development Agency (USCDA) CEO, Mandla Mabece, has been appointed by the Ugu District Municipality as an acting general manager of Integrated Economic Development (IED) for a period of three months from last month.
The department [IED] had been operating without a manager for almost a year after its general manager Zakithi Mbonani’s five-year contract came to an end last year October.
Last year, Mabece was appointed as an acting Umdoni Municipality manager after former manager Xolani Luthuli was placed on precautionary suspension for alleged corruption and misconduct. During Izinqoleni and Hibiscus Coast amalgamation some opposition councillors claimed that Mabece was apparently sidelined, in spite of his good record.
Mabece was born in Queenstown, studied at the University of the Western Cape and did Civil Engineering, was a teacher for four years, obtained a Masters Degree in Urban Planning at the University of the Free State, and because his wife is also a teacher, he followed her to Margate, where he again taught for a few years.
He then spent a short period with the then KZN Department of Local Government (now Cogta) in Durban, before joining Ugu as a town planner, and moving to the HCM.
Ugu spokesperson France Zama confirmed that Mabece has assumed all the roles and responsibilities associated with the position.
