Woman arrested for abondoning her children

A 24-YEAR-OLD mother of two children who were allegedly abandoned in Malangeni on Friday, August 3 was arrested this past Tuesday.

At approximately 9.30 pm on Friday night, members of the Scottburgh SAPS responded to a report of two children who were allegedly abandoned by their mother, who had gone away to Umlazi in Durban.

The mother, who lives in Gumede area, Sezela, had gone over to Malangeni to the house of the man she claims is the father of the one month old baby-girl and the three-year-old girl child. As he was not going to be home, she left the children with his sister, who refused to look after them as she could not feed nor clothe them. The mother allegedly left them regardless and went to Durban.

Police arranged for the toddler to be cared for at a place of safety while the baby was taken to the G.J. Crookes Hospital in Scottburgh for care.

Investigations led detectives to Umzinto where the mother of the children was arrested by detective sergeant Nonkululeko Mgqibisa of the Umzinto Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit (FCS) and detective constable Dillon Khamisa of the Scottburgh SAPS Detective Service.

She had her first court appearance at the Scottburgh Magistrates’ Court yesterday. — Supplied.
