Addo: four armed men robbed elderly couple
THE police in Addo in conjunction with detectives from the Uitenhage Cluster Operational Command Centre have launched a manhunt for four suspects who allegedly robbed an elderly couple during early hours (00:40) on Monday morning.
It is alleged that security officers responded to an alarm at a business premises situated next to the R335 (Addo) at about 00:35. Upon arrival the security officials heard the sound of a car alarm and investigated. They then found a couple (both in their 80s) locked inside their cottage after it was allegedly broken into.
According to police spokesperson Captain Gerda Swart, it is alleged that the four armed suspects entered the cottage through an unlocked door.
“The suspects threatened the couple with firearms and demanded cash and cellphones. The suspects then went to the vehicle and removed items from the vehicle and fled on foot from the scene with the couple’s car keys, an undisclosed amount of cash, camera and cellphones,” said Captain Swart.
The couple sustained injuries and were taken for medical treatment.
The police appeal to business owners to be vigilant of any suspicious behaviour and to ensure they utilize the security measures that are in place. Doors and windows must always be locked, especially during night time.
