NELSON Mandela Bay 4x4 enthusiasts have something to look forward to with the launching of the new Walmer 4x4 Off Road Adventure Track today.
The 8km track was developed on a vacant piece of land privately owned by the Walmer Country Club in Victoria Drive.
“Being a 4x4 enthusiast, I was looking to establish an affordable track close to or in the heart of Port Elizabeth to offer 4x4 owners an opportunity to test their vehicles’ capabilities without having to travel too far,” said Gerard Pienaar of Walmer 4x4 Off Road Adventure.
The Walmer Country Club committee granted them permission to establish the 4x4 track on their land.
“The track is made up of challenging obstacles, combining steep gradients, crossovers and tight turns and bends,” Pienaar said.
He added that they will also be arranging corporate days and inviting businesses to come and enjoy the facilities, which include an 18-hole championship golf course, squash courts, a braai area and bar with catering facilities.
“Our business clients will also have the opportunity to purchase advertising space on the track to assist with funding the future development of the 4x4 track.
“The track will be open to the public today. An official opening will be held later,” he said.
