GERT Williams (52) was sentenced to 22 years imprisonment by the Uitenhage Regional Court on Monday, 3 September, for raping a 12-year-old victim twice during 2016 in Kamesh.
According to police spokes-person Captain Gerda Swart, the accused was arrested by detectives soon after the cases were opened and Williams remained in custody for the duration of the trial.
Williams was found guilty in November 2017.
“Williams was sentenced effectively to 22-years imprisonment on each of the two counts of rape. The sentences will run concurrently,” said Captain Swart.
The acting Uitenhage Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ronald Koll welcomed the sentencing and commended the team for their comprehensive work which led to the effective conviction and sentencing by the Uitenhage Regional Court.
