Shot put athlete scoops gold in Nigeria

ISCHKE Senekal (25), a student at Nelson Mandela University and resident from Uitenhage, continued to show she can perform at the highest level when she won the shot put gold medal at the African Athletics Championships held in Nigeria.

This Bestmed Madibaz Athletics Club member completed a memorable meeting in Asaba, Nigeria, with her shot put winning distance of 17.24 metres and also winning a bronze medal in the discus event. Senekal qualified for the Commonwealth Games earlier this year, but was not included in the South African squad.

Her performances in Nigeria resulted in Senekal being included in the African team which will compete in the Continental Cup in the Czech Republic on September 8 and 9.
