U’hage police investigator best in province

CONSTABLE Renier Japhta from the Vehicle Crime Identification Unit in Uitenhage was awarded at national level as the Best Performing Employee: Specific Crime Investigation in the Eastern Cape.

He received the award during the National Crime Detection Conference which was hosted in Pretoria.

Constable Japhta has more than 17-years’ experience as a police official and joined the service in 2001 as a reservist where he served the community of Uitenhage for 11 years before he became a permanent officer during 2012. He joined the Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit in Uitenhage during 2014.

Acting Uitenhage Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ronald Koll, said Constable Japhta secured several convictions during the 2017/2018 period and he has vast knowledge about investigation skills, especially when it comes to identifying tampered and or stolen motor vehicles, which is one of the major crime concerns in the Eastern Cape.

“During the 2017/2018 period, he ensured that two accused were effectively sentenced to 5 years imprisonment each and also positively linked to other theft of motor vehicle cases in the Port Elizabeth area,” said Brigadier Koll.

Another accused was also sentenced effectively to 3 years imprisonment for vehicle theft.

When operations are conducted in the Uitenhage Cluster, Constable Japhta is the one who leads by example by identifying the tampered vehicles on the spot, and owing to his determination he excels in his field of expertise.

Constable Japhta praised the support of his colleagues at the Unit as well as from his commanders.

The Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Liziwe Ntshinga said, “We are very proud of him and appreciate the excellent work that Constable Japhta has done and he deserves this accolade.” -HEILIE COMBRINCK
