Two young South African high school pupils are on their way to New York hoping to bring about change through delivering talks on racism and criticism.
The two girls are represented by the organisation Think Ahead, which works with schools offering support in their 21st century teaching and learning.
Managing director of Think Ahead, Michelle Lissoos, said the organisation believed strongly in giving young South African a voice.
"We ensure all our programmes instil key 21st century skills in the students that participate. That is why we were so excited to offer our partner schools the TED-Ed programme. We are so proud of Boipelo and Ayanda – and can't wait to hear their voices from the New York TED stage," Lissoos said.
The organisation's TED-Ed club ran a 13-week public speaking curriculum that was prepared by TED to help participants from schools across Gauteng discover and develop their ideas to deliver their own TED-style talk.
The TED-Ed weekend is an annual gathering of students from around the world, who participate in TED-Ed clubs, designed to amplify the voices of the next generation of TED.
Moagi and Bokaba were selected from hundreds of entries who were uploaded by clubs such as Think Ahead.
During the event at TED's New York headquarters, all those participating will be sharing inspiring performances, participate in hands-on workshops and attend sessions of TED Talks.
