3 killed, 3 injured in collision in Carletonville

Three people have been killed, while 3 others were injured in a pedestrian collision on East Driefontein road in Carletonville on Saturday morning.

“It is believed that a pedestrian was killed after being knocked down by a vehicle after which the vehicle then collided with a taxi,” ER24 Spokesperson Ineke Van Huyssteen said in a statement on Saturday.

Upon arriving at the scene paramedics found two patients in the backseat of the vehicle.

“They were showing no signs of life and were declared dead on the scene,” Huyssteen said.

The driver of the vehicle was found trapped inside alive.

“The driver had to be extricated with the jaws of life. He sustained moderate injuries,” Huyssteen added.

Two other patients sustained moderate to serious injuries. They were all transported to hospital for medical care.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
